We demand that the Tucson City government cancel its security contract with G4S (formerly Wackenhut). G4S is the world’s largest for-profit prison company. It is responsible for “unlawful deaths” of migrants from the UK to Australia. It runs deportation buses on the US -Mexico border and to Operation Streamline. The US Senate determined that it committed discriminatory hiring practices and overcharges in federal contracts. Racial violations in Africa have led to calls for its ouster from the continent. It has contracts in Israeli prisons where torture regularly occurs. G4S’s egregious human rights record has prompted Durham Co., NC, the US Methodist Church, Colombia University and the Gates Foundation to divest from its stock. G4S has no place in our “Immigrant Welcoming City.”
