To: Sacramento Regional Transit Board of Directors

Because G4S, the world’s largest private security company, is complicit in and profiting from well-documented violations of human rights and other international laws, we the undersigned ask that you: 1) not extend Sacramento Regional Transit’s current contract with G4S, allowing it to expire on June 30, 2016; 2) develop criteria to be included in Request For Proposals (RFP) for the next contract to exclude companies that are involved in human rights violations; and 3) do not award G4S another contract if they are still engaged or complicit in violations of human rights and international law.

We add our voices to the letter that you have received from local organizations and individuals and to others around the world who are calling on G4S to reform its business practices and have refused to do business with them until they do.

G4S is associated with numerous human rights violations all over the globe. To have them in our city is a disgrace.

They consistently hassle minority kids in Sacramento. We should not contract with a company that does that.

I have personally witnessed ICE, other law enforcement agencies, as well as the private security guards harass individuals for tickets prior to even entering the station preventing persons from purchasing tickets. Further they often demand drivers licences and ID’s from passengers who are ticketed, which is not required by California law, nor is it required to ride the light rail. Please help end these abuses by not extending the contract and allowing those who cannot afford to travel to work in a vehicle to go to work in peace free of harassment by law enforcement and RT officials.

As a Sacramento RT Light Rail commuter for years, I am distressed about G4S’s complicity with human rights violations and wish to see Sacramento distance itself from contracting with this company. Ethical criteria relating to the upholding of environmental, labor and human rights standards/ practice should be used in all contractor selection processes to assure that public agencies are not tarnished by the deeds of those they hire. Please dont renew the contract with G4S. Thank you.
